Rep. Tom Price

The author of the Empowering Patients First Act, a plan to repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, (PPACA) Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), has been named as the Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) by President-elect Donald Trump, according to news reports.

“Chairman Price, a renowned physician, has earned a reputation for being a tireless problem solver and the go-to expert on healthcare policy, making him the ideal choice to serve in this capacity,” Trump was quoted in Politico. Other candidates reported to have been under consideration included former Republican presidential candidates Bobby Jindal and Dr. Ben Carson.

This continues to be a developing story.
